TRENDSTAR DEC Editor Cheat Sheet PDF Print E-mail

The venerable DEC Editor is powerful and convenient because it is located right on the TRENDSTAR server. This makes it the tool of choice for everything from simple text editing to executing complex edit steps on selected strings, massive repetitive edits and merging files. The DEC editor can generally handle text files up to about 80,000 blocks (40 MB) far better than the MS/Windows Notepad. For larger files we recommend you FTP the file to your workstation and use UltraEdit-32 (see our "Other Solutions" category more info).

Geometric versus Arithmetic ALOS in TRENDSTAR PDF Print E-mail

Whenever you write a report in Trendstar that asks for ALOS (average length of stay), you are prompted for whether the ALOS computation should be arithmetic or geometric. DEC Editor Macros PDF Print E-mail

For massive repetitive edit tasks unsuitable for the *subs command mentioned above, you can use a DEC Editor Macro. Macros are simply a string of commands put together in sequence. Macros are not saved once you leave the edit session, but you can store them by copying them to the windows clipboard just after entering them, then pasting to a text file. You can edit the text file and paste the macro string of text instead of keying it.
